CompeerCORPS

CompeerCORPS

CompeerCORPS, founded in 2011, employs the power of friendship and peer connection to help veterans overcome the challenges of isolation and mental health issues during their transition to civilian life. As an evidence-based supportive friendship model, the program supports veterans who are struggling with symptoms of PTSD and depression by matching them with trained veteran volunteers for supportive, non-clinical companionship. In partnership with the Monroe County VSA and the Joseph Dwyer Fund, CompeerCORPS offers peer support, group activities, transportation services (Vets Driving Vets), and adaptive sports to facilitate community reintegration.

Core Services List:

  • Veteran-to-Veteran Peer Supported Friendships (Mentorship)

  • Group Activities and Events (e.g., Seasonal Sports, Art Classes, Journaling)

  • Transportation Services (Vets Driving Vets)

  • Family Support and Advocacy

  • Adaptive Sports and Outdoor Activities (through OASIS merger)
